About Us
The Department of Pathophysiology was established in July 2018 through the merger of the Department for the Study of Obesity and Diabetes (formerly the Department of Sports Medicine) and the pathophysiology section of the Department of Normal, Clinical, and Pathological Physiology. The Department of Pathophysiology integrates basic and clinically oriented research to develop innovative therapeutic and preventive approaches, particularly in the fields of diabetes mellitus and obesity. The clinical component of this research is conducted in close and highly productive collaboration with the Division of Clinical Physiology, part of the Department of Internal Medicine of the Third Faculty of Medicine (Charles University) and the University Hospital Královské Vinohrady. Alongside scientific and research activities, the institute plays a significant role in teaching undergraduate students in the fields of obesity, diabetes, physiology and pathophysiology of metabolism, and sports medicine, as well as in leading postgraduate students.
